
11 Mar 05 UMA ( MALAGA UNIVERSITY) AND AMUM SIGN AN AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP JOINT PROJECTS IN THE FIELD OF GENDER EQUALITY
The University of Malaga and the Association of University Women of Marbella (AMUM) have signed a collaboration agreement on February 9 that will serve to develop joint activities related to the promotion of women and gender equality, with special reference to the related to training, research, technological development, innovation, art and culture.
The agreement was presented in the Government Pavilion with the participation of the dean of the UMA José Ángel Narváez, the vice-rector for Equality, Diversity and Social Action Isabel Jiménez and the vice-president of AMUM Graciela Waen Herrendorf who have agreed on the importance of adding the potential of the institution and the association to advance in these matters.
“We are talking about equality and the promotion of women, in short, a vocation strongly shared by both, with common objectives; adding efforts will make us better,” said Narváez, who during his speech was especially interested in collaborating, among other matters, in projects related to R+D+i, in the promotion of women in STEM careers and in programs mobility and international cooperation with Europe and Latin America.
“The agreement is a sign of the commitment of both institutions to the promotion of gender equality. It is expected that this collaboration will lead to numerous joint activities in the coming months and years, we want to start as soon as possible”, explained Isabel Jiménez.
Graciela Waen stressed that “collaboration with the university will allow the association to have a greater impact on society.” Likewise, she pointed out the importance of the previous experience between the two, “where the participation of UMA professors and professors in our seminars is enormous.”
Also present at the event were the Assistant Vice Dean for Equity Policies Rafael Durán; the AMUM project coordinator Marité Mehr, the representative of the founding members Blanca Molet and the representative of the secretary, Pilar Torrero. The signed agreement establishes the creation of a mixed committee monitoring and coordinating the organization of the activities, and will be in charge of designing the concrete proposals for action.
