Calle Málaga is a luminous, delicate and deeply vibrant film. The story of María Ángeles, a 79-year-old woman living alone in Tangier who refuses to leave the flat where she has built her life, becomes a beautiful celebration of freedom, desire and the dignity of continuing to choose our own path at any age. Amidst memories, affection and new discoveries, the film speaks to us of what truly belongs to us: our home, our memories and, above all, our ability to keep on dreaming.
Maryam Touzani directs this story with sensitivity, starring an extraordinary Carmen Maura, alongside Marta Etura and Ahmed Boulane. A co-production between Spain, Morocco, France, Belgium and Germany, and winner of various awards – including the Audience Award at Venice, Best Actress, Best Film and the Audience Award at the Mar del Plata Film Festival – it is well worth watching and reflecting on.
