GWI SUPPORTS THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF OLDER PERSONS
On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, observed on 1 October, GWI is supporting the hybrid event “Connecting Generations: Rediscovering the Value of Older Persons in an Ageing Society,” which will take place at the United Nations Office in Vienna on 5 October, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST). The event is organized by the NGO Committee on Ageing in Vienna, in collaboration with the Civil Society Unit of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
The United Nations theme for 2026, “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives,” asks how institutions can respond to increased life expectancy. The discussion will explore ways to connect generations and ensure that older persons remain visible and active in their communities. The programme includes a presentation on “Generations Connected Through Lifelong Learning,” a topic closely aligned with GWI’s commitment to education throughout life. GWI supports opportunities for older women to continue learning, share their knowledge, and participate fully in society.
