WORLD DAY
GWI COMMEMORATES WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS WITH AN INFOGRAPHIC
World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on 30 July since 2013, aims to raise awareness of human trafficking internationally, with a focus on identifying the underlying socio-economic and cultural issues that create vulnerability, allowing human trafficking to thrive. This year, GWI joins the United Nations (UN) and other organisations in calling on Member States to recognise the atrocities of human trafficking and improve their efforts to prevent and convict for this crime.
GWI observes the 2024 theme, ‘Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking’, with an infographic highlighting the facts about this crime; The number of convictions for human trafficking crimes decreased by 27 percent in 2020 from the previous year. One in three victims of human trafficking worldwide is a child, and children are twice as likely to experience violence during trafficking as adults (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime). Sadly, women and girls continue to be disproportionately trafficked, accounting for around 71 percent of trafficked persons. To access the infographic with more quick facts on human trafficking.
